Art and Technology
Art, Film & Music will be the first in a series of new exhibitions aimed at transforming The Tech into a true “Silicon Valley Experience.” Visitors will learn first-hand why Silicon Valley technology has been, and continues to be, so important to the arts -from the first music synthesizer to the amazing graphics tools being created in the Valley today.
Timing
This exhibition will open June 4, 2008 in conjunction with the ZER01 Festival in San Jose.
Eligibility
Virtual exhibits suitable for the Art, Film & Music exhibition are eligible for cash prizes. In order to be selected for the Art, Film & Music exhibition, an exhibit must
- relate to art, video, music or dance,
- involve the role of technology (ancient or modern), and
- be interactive and otherwise suitable as a museum exhibit for our audience.
For an excellent tutorial on the qualities that make a good museum exhibit, see the Introduction to Interactive Exhibit Design tutorial in the basement of The Tech Virtual Museum.
Audience
The Tech Museum attracts more than 400,000 visitors per year to its facility in Silicon Valley. Forth percent of these visitors are children. An increasing number of our visitors are tourists and business travelers. Through our web presence, we engage millions more people.
Art, Film & Music will include a menu of activities that cater to each audience. Proud parents can watch their child become a star on the global stage. School children can form an ad hoc garage band. Alone adult can work on a highly creative or detailed piece. We plan to include thought-provoking, edgy content that represents the leading edge of today’s electronic art movement.
Other Upcoming Exhibitions
Art, Film & Music is only the first of a series of exhibitions that will draw on virtual exhibits. Others include:
- Choices: an exhibition about the environmental impact of different lifestyle choices.
- Biotech exhibition.
- Spirit of Silicon Valley about the spirit of innovation.
