How to Find Help for your Project

This How-to is intended for: exhibit developer

How do you find people to help you with your exhibit project - especially people with the skills you are missing? Read on...

For: Project Leaders

You are looking for someone to help you with your project.  Perhaps you are new to Second Life and need someone to help with the building and scripting.  In order of effectiveness, you can:

  1. post a Help Wanted notice,
  2. look in the Skills Registry for members willing to share those skills, and send them an email, or
  3. come to the weekly exhibit design meetings in the Parkside Workshop.

Posting a Help Wanted Notice

Go to your project's home page.  If it doesn't already have a section called Help Wanted at the bottom of the page, then click on the green 'Add Item' link and choose 'Help Wanted Folder" (see image).

Name the folder Help Wanted.  Next choose Add Item again and choose Help Wanted Notice.

Pick a name for the notice - let's say Builder and Scripter.  Now provide a description: "build a life-size elephant and script it to sit up and beg."  Finally, fill in the skills you are looking for in the person.  In this case, just copy the description above into the box for Second Life Skills, and now click Save.  Your notice will now appear under the general Help Wanted tab on the Website, as well as in your own project.

Searching the Skills Registry

Click on the Skills Registry tab and select the sort of skill you're looking for (e.g. Second Life Skills).  Read the descriptions of their skills people have provided (there's probably a big difference in skills between someone who answers "not much" and someone who answers "ran my own SL building company for two years").  To find out more about the person, click on their name to see their profile.  Once you found someone who might meet your needs, click on Send Email and describe your project and needs to them.

Attend the Weekly Exhibit Design Meetup

This currently happens every Friday at 10 AM SLT in the Parkside Exhibit Workshop, but check the calendar to the right on the Website to be sure.
