How To Add a Video to Your Project

This How-to is intended for: exhibit developer, Second Life developer

Add a YouTube or Google video to your project's home page

Purpose

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then how many is a video worth?  Make your idea more compelling with a short video clip.

Prerequisities

First, record the video and upload it to YouTube (or to Google Video).  For help with this part of the process, see http://www.youtube.com/t/howto_makevideo

Step by step

  1. Log in and go to your project's home page.
  2. On the right of the green edit bar, click on Add Item and choose Google Video (even if it's a YouTube video!).
  3. Fill in the Title and (optional) Description fields.
  4. Fill in the video DocID.  You don't need the whole URL for the video, just the part after the = sign.  For example, if the URL is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R31UbuDKRts, then the DocID is just R31UbuDKRts .
  5. If you leave Autoplay checked, the video will start to play as soon as the page loads (this is probably what you want).
  6. The image is optional and unnecessary.
  7. Click Save and you are done.
A link to the video will now appear on your project's home page for all to see, beneath your Project Task List.  The Description, if you entered one, will appear below the link.
