Open Source Museum Exhibits
On June 4, 2008, the Tech Museum opened the Virtual Test Zone gallery - featuring the world's first open source museum exhibits. These seven exhibits, all contributed under a Creative Commons license and prototyped in Second Life, will become part of The Tech's upcoming Art, Film & Music exhibition.
Summit on Digital Democracy in Exhibit Design
To celebrate its new Virtual Test Zone gallery, the Tech hosted a Summit on Digital Democracy in Exhibit Design on June 4, 2008, the day of the opening. The event took place in front of live audiences both at The Tech in San Jose and at The Tech Virtual Museum in Second Life. Keynote speakers were Philip Rosedale, Linden Lab founder and Chairman, and Peter Friess, Ph.D., President of The Tech. Program for the event.

All the exhibits in this gallery were designed by individuals unrelated to The Tech, prototyped in the Second Life virtual world, and then built for the real life Tech Museum in San Jose. The tour guide is Marie Crandell, one of the exhibit designers.
