How do people use the exhibit? What do they do, from start to finish?
How are people attracted to the exhibit?
- signage
- beautiful display of characters set against silken strips of cloth
What is the initial interaction? What happens when visitors approach the exhibit?
- they feel compelled to explore and touch the Chinese characters in the exhibit
- they feel drawn to the main sign, and when they touch it, a streaming media plays
- they see a stage where an SL animation should play, and then see something rez on the stage when they touch a character.
What is the main interaction? What do people do and how does the exhibit respond while they are playing/using it? How long does the whole experience take? Is it social or individual?
- as they explore the various animations and images, they will start to understand how Chinese characters are constructed from images, sounds, and ideas.
- the first impulse is to touch the characters, but later they will sense the presence of the character-making and writing stations. they will be transported to web-based writing animations and games.
- they will engage in student-centered, individual learning. learn and play at your own speed, no pressure from anyone else.
How does the experience end? What's the reward? How do people know when they are done?
- after they gain some basic knowledge, they will test their ability to recognize characters using logic and reasoning
- then they proceed to a challenge area where they will be tested on new characters
- we could label the various stations-1,2 and 3
- users will be amazed that they can easily learn chinese characters
How does the exhibit reset for the next player, both in the case when the previous user goes through the whole thing or leaves early?
- any animation on the stage will de-rez in 10 seconds and return to default settings. the user will have to touch the characters again to repeat any content.
