A exhibit house without a roof is set up in Second Life with sensors to monitor the location of an avatar inside the house. The avatar's location is shown as text in the middle of the house above a wall. A remote monitoring station for caregivers can also show the avatar's location in text at a place removed from the Eldercare Smarthouse. This is a simplified demo to allow one to understand the basic concepts. This real life working system combines technology and implementation expertise to deliver a complete yet unobtrusive monitoring environment without using cameras or microphones that invade the private lives of seniors. The advanced sensor suite and data analysis system provides seniors, their families and their caregivers with vital information about their daily routines and health status. It enables caregivers – including medical personnel and family members – to monitor the physiologic status of senior citizens living in eldercare facilities or even while still living in their established community setting.
