SL to RL Project Criteria
The judging criteria, and how this project meets it, is outlined here.
The judging critiria, and how this project meets it, is outlined here.
1 - Be realisable in RL by June 1st
This exhibit using technology currently available and within a
reasonable budget. It requires fabrication by RL engineers and
fabricators at The Tech, in a straightforward style, rather like a stage set. Foley props are easily available and easy to create, these would need to becorded to the tables ensure they stay with the exhibit. The sound quiz could be created in a generic computer or playback recorder device. the space required for this exhibit is within the parameters of The Tech RL. There are a number of sound compnaies who coudl provide sound clips as needed, most if not all from library stock.
2 - Have a presence both on the website and in SL
The SL prototype of This Sounds Fun! can be found in Parkside Hall just inside the main entrance, behind the large orb.
This Sounds Fun! can be found on the web at http://thetechvirtual.org/projects/Lights-Camera-Action
3 - Relate to the core theme of the role of technology in art, film, or music
This exhibit is on the theme of film, specifically sound effects in film.
4 - Tie back to an educational core principle about art, film or music
This exhibit explores how sound effects are made, both from a historical perspective and incorporating modern technology. It includes interactive exhibits and information board information which encourages visitors to experiment with making sounds and to hear sounds in a new way.
5 - Relate to the theme of 'Silicon Valley'
Silicon Valley companies have played a large part in the advances in digital technology that allow Sound Technologists to utilise and manipulate sound as they can do today. Foley Sound Effects are very much created in a spirit of 'what happens if I do this?', an approach which charaterises much of Silicon Valley's success.
