Can music alter your mood? What sounds calm you down or excite you?

Art, Film & Music Projects

No

Using biofeedback technology, visitors will be able to observe their own responses to musical compositions. Can music sooth the soul? What happens in the brain when different types of music/sounds are heard? The exhibit will include a video that explains the technology of biofeedback and a demonstration. Visitors will put on head phones and a special durable wearable biofeedback device created for the exhibit. They will select different types of discordant music, atonal music, noise and sweet melodies. (Three buttons on a panel.) On a computer screen, they will then see their own responses to hearing the sounds in wild colors. For the virtual world version, we will have to simulate biofeedback, unless we can provide a means to get heart rate or breathing measurements using a microphone.
