Open Source Designers meeting 2008-09-30
Members Ronnie Fargis and Ethelred Weatherwax return after some time away and start demo type experimental projects on the new sim, The Tech 2.
[10:08] Agent Heliosense: hi ronnie
[10:09] Agent Heliosense: thanks for stopping in how did you hear about our place
[10:09] Ronnie Fargis: hi agent
[10:09] Ronnie Fargis: im a member of the group..
[10:09] Agent Heliosense: oh great
[10:09] Ronnie Fargis: but didnt do much here
[10:09] Ronnie Fargis: i just saw the notice, and got time
[10:09] Agent Heliosense: well i've kept these meetings going between competitions
[10:10] Agent Heliosense: because we've been expanding and will be starting a new one soon
[10:10] Ronnie Fargis: a sounds cool
[10:10] Agent Heliosense: hi Peter
[10:10] peter Woody: Hello to all
[10:10] Ethelred Weatherwax: hello
[10:10] Agent Heliosense: hi Ethelred wow didn't see y a
[10:10] Ethelred Weatherwax: I'm sneaky sometimes
[10:11] Agent Heliosense: so looks like you are all already in the group and know what we do here
[10:11] peter Woody: yes
[10:11] Ronnie Fargis: usually i dont read the notes, but the Open Source tag noticed me
[10:12] Agent Heliosense: so we've added a sim just to the south
[10:12] Agent Heliosense: and what we'll be doing is designing museum exhibits under topics
[10:12] Agent Heliosense: generally science based and the upcoming topics will be
[10:12] Agent Heliosense: "Art - Film - Music - Games"
[10:13] Ronnie Fargis: ah, the games part fits me...
[10:13] Ronnie Fargis: i made a few open source games...
[10:13] Agent Heliosense: and most of the exhibits in this room were developed under the previous "Art film music games" round
[10:13] Agent Heliosense: great
[10:13] Ronnie Fargis: currently working on a cardgame (Toepen), maybe going to make poker too
[10:14] peter Woody: cool
[10:14] Agent Heliosense: Second Life needs games, and the curator for the exhibition is really into games and bringing that in
[10:14] Agent Heliosense: is that in Second Life, real life or both Ronnie
[10:14] Ronnie Fargis: only Second Life
[10:14] Agent Heliosense: great. Would you be interested in setting up a demo in ouir developer area?
[10:15] Ronnie Fargis: let me show one, ok
[10:15] Agent Heliosense: We're ramping up for the round, which will have some prizes, it's not all detailed yet.
[10:16] Agent Heliosense: but we have space for approx. 50 or so exhibits at one time
[10:16] Ronnie Fargis: yee, sound cool
[10:16] Agent Heliosense: i think it will make a good cross-pollenation because
[10:16] Agent Heliosense: many people have great ideas and no way to implement them
[10:17] Agent Heliosense: and many have great technique without a specific use
[10:17] Ronnie Fargis: whats: pollenation?
[10:17] peter Woody: I don't understand too
[10:18] Agent Heliosense: sorry, you can mix, mingle and share ideas, maybe work together
[10:18] Agent Heliosense: http://thetechvirtual.org/createMember
[10:18] Ronnie Fargis: ah ok...
[10:18] Agent Heliosense: on our site, you can create teams
[10:18] Agent Heliosense: if needed,
[10:18] Agent Heliosense: or, work alone, that's up to you
[10:18] Ronnie Fargis: sound good, i can script most things, but my designing is usually terribkle
[10:19] Agent Heliosense: also, some universities, museums, and companies will be part of our efforts as it develops
[10:19] peter Woody: Well, I hope the new sim isn't reserved only for we too, lol
[10:20] Agent Heliosense: so, what i'm saying is, I think you'll be pleased with the quality and focused nature of it
[10:20] Ethelred Weatherwax: I'll take a whole sim! Or a half. LOL
[10:20] Agent Heliosense: hehe
[10:21] peter Woody: I'm still studying and I think I cannot realize anything useful
[10:21] peter Woody: I was thinking to offer my translation skills
[10:21] peter Woody: I'm Italian
[10:21] Agent Heliosense: what are you studying Peter
[10:22] Agent Heliosense: Our museum has a big Italian connection! The curator of "Art - Film - Music - Games" is Italian
[10:22] peter Woody: building & scripts, but I'm a newbee in them
[10:23] peter Woody: well some exhibit woul d be nice in italian too
[10:23] Agent Heliosense: we also just have a big Leonardo exhibit here from Florence http://thetech.org/leonardo/
[10:23] peter Woody: great
[10:23] Ronnie Fargis: so.. is this all, today is coming?
[10:24] Agent Heliosense: so, keep an eye out for things you might be able to work on
[10:24] Agent Heliosense: or i'll also try to get our curator on here
[10:24] peter Woody: ok
[10:25] peter Woody: better to have a look of the new sim, for me
[10:25] Agent Heliosense: we have smallish plots on which to develop exhibits like in here
[10:26] Agent Heliosense: the prims should be around 200 or less in general
[10:27] Agent Heliosense: and the topic will be, develop an interactive exhibit which is based around science learning through "Art - Film - music- games"
[10:27] Agent Heliosense: there are some earlier examples in this room of what folks did
[10:27] Agent Heliosense: and some omore at http://thetechvirtual.org/projects/afm-projects/
[10:28] peter Woody: I saw them and some are very beautiful
[10:29] Agent Heliosense: I'll be getting more specific directions soon
[10:29] Agent Heliosense: but i'm welcoming folks who want to brainstorm, build or demo to jump in!
[10:29] peter Woody: ty
[10:30] Agent Heliosense: Ronnie for example if you want to demo your game I'll set you up with a space
[10:30] peter Woody: Ethel, if you want a tester for your poker game I'm available, lol
[10:30] Agent Heliosense: just make sure to start a profile, if you didn't already at http://thetechvirtual.org/createMember
[10:31] peter Woody: will do
[10:31] Ronnie Fargis: im forgotten my login..
[10:31] Ethelred Weatherwax: poker game?
[10:31] Ronnie Fargis: an there is an bug (php i guess) in the password forgotten site
[10:31] Ronnie Fargis: http://thetechvirtual.org/mail_password_form?userid=
[10:31] Ronnie Fargis: it was me that maybe wants to make a pokergame
[10:32] Agent Heliosense: ty. well think about this, is there a way to use the poker program in different ways
[10:32] peter Woody: oh sorry Ronnie
[10:32] Agent Heliosense: for example: http://thetechvirtual.org/projects/ucantu-projects/cell-bazaar/
[10:32] Ronnie Fargis: what do you mean by diffrent ways?
[10:32] peter Woody: yes, it may be a good sample for the probabilitie
[10:33] peter Woody: *ties
[10:33] Agent Heliosense: Yes, probabilities, trading assets for example
[10:34] Agent Heliosense: we're working on this idea for a game that explains the Cell Bazaar on this page. It's a cell phone based marketplace
[10:34] Agent Heliosense: http://thetechvirtual.org/projects/ucantu/technologies/cellbazaar
[10:34] Ronnie Fargis: trading assets, im not very good at eghlish, and my translater cant tr it well
[10:34] Agent Heliosense: how to show this in a museum format in a direct, engaging, interactive way
[10:35] Ethelred Weatherwax: I want to create a history exhibit, but am not sure how it would fit in with your themes
[10:36] Ronnie Fargis: i didnt think about that one....
[10:36] Agent Heliosense: Ronnie what language do you speak
[10:36] Ronnie Fargis: dutch
[10:36] Agent Heliosense: Ethelred history of what for example
[10:36] Agent Heliosense: Trading assets would be like shopping, trade,
[10:37] Ethelred Weatherwax: I was thinking of excavation of a church buried in a sand dune
[10:37] peter Woody: Intriguing
[10:38] peter Woody: maybe you should realize a model
[10:38] Ronnie Fargis: ow, btw.. yesterday i started a project to make charts in SL, that can be accessed with an API
[10:39] Ronnie Fargis: its just a simple version, but maybe im going to expand it
[10:40] Agent Heliosense: yes we're looking for some interesting things like that as well
[10:40] Ronnie Fargis: but i really hates, you cant write text on textures. This could be a cool feature in SL
[10:40] Agent Heliosense: you can set up a "demo table"
[10:41] Agent Heliosense: it would be
[10:42] Agent Heliosense: for example, we'll be lookign at ways to bridge the SL -> RL museum -> interaction process in new ways
[10:42] Agent Heliosense: right now, it's a batch of ideas and interesting tech things you can do
[10:43] Agent Heliosense: and so it's very experimental and a good opportunity
[10:44] peter Woody: hmmm, It is the third meeting I attend on this table: next time I will come with a real good idea or I will not come, lol
[10:44] Agent Heliosense: Ethelred if you can make the idea into an exhibit then I'd say give it a go in this interim!
[10:44] Object owned by Chara Clawtooth gave you 'Fire Notecard' ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Tech/51/178/42 ).
[10:45] Ethelred Weatherwax: I can make the idea an exhibit -- just nt sure how it fits your theme
[10:46] Agent Heliosense: Well I think that it might be good practice at least, also,
[10:46] Agent Heliosense: more museums will be signing onto this program
[10:47] peter Woody: It would be an archeological exhibit, if I understand well, Ethelred
[10:48] peter Woody: if you make a simulation in which ppl has a part, then iI think it fits
[10:49] Agent Heliosense: Well, designing an exhibit itself is a skill, so regardless of topic then it would be ok for the current time, and space.
[10:50] Ethelred Weatherwax: I'd like to have something interactive. Don't really need help to come up with something passive -- pictures and objects with labels
[10:50] Agent Heliosense: the reason we limit it to this approx. 7mx7m space is
[10:50] Agent Heliosense: so that it can fit into a real museum installation, and it's manageable
[10:52] Agent Heliosense: so how about, since we're in between topical cometitions, i'll set aside a space for "experimental"
[10:54] Agent Heliosense: we have space at the moment for that, Ethelred and Ronnie I'll show you a space
[10:54] Agent Heliosense: ok so
[10:54] peter Woody: I have to go
[10:54] Agent Heliosense: we'll go over to The Tech 2 to the south
[10:54] peter Woody: sorry
[10:55] Agent Heliosense: and adjourn here
[10:55] peter Woody: in Italy we have dinner now
[10:55] You have offered friendship to Ronnie Fargis
[10:55] peter Woody: see you to the next I hope
[10:55] Agent Heliosense: ok peter!
[10:55] Agent Heliosense: great
[10:55] Agent Heliosense: Ron, Ethel, I'll tp you or see you there near the dome
