[9:59]  You: hello!
[9:59]  ChuChu Ricardo: Events
[9:59]  Avi Marquez: awesome. we're glad to have you :)
[9:59]  ChuChu Ricardo: Educational Events
[9:59]  ChuChu Ricardo: ty
[10:00]  You: glad the word is getting out
[10:00]  Lydia Milner: Hi :)
[10:00]  ChuChu Ricardo: Are these multiple projects
[10:00]  You: hi lydia
[10:00]  Avi Marquez is Offline
[10:01]  KK Jewell: What is happening?
[10:01]  You: i'm going to give you a notecard with info about the projects, but i'm waiting for it to load
[10:01]  You: hi kk
[10:01]  KK Jewell: Hi Shakini
[10:01]  KK Jewell accepted your inventory offer.
[10:02]  You: have you guys been to thetechvirtual.org website?
[10:02]  KK Jewell: Yes
[10:03]  KK Jewell: This sounds interesting:)
[10:03]  ChuChu Ricardo accepted your inventory offer.
[10:03]  You: hi evus
[10:04]  Evus Mizin: hello
[10:04]  Lydia Milner: Hi Evus :)
[10:04]  Evus Mizin: Hi Lydia
[10:04]  Evus Mizin: :)
[10:04]  Lydia Milner accepted your inventory offer.
[10:06]  Lydia Milner: sorry on phn
[10:07]  KK Jewell: I just heard about it now so I have to read through all material. Will just lsten now
[10:09]  Lydia Milner: hi back, just catching up...
[10:09]  Lydia Milner: ok, sorry, did you ant me to talk about you can dew?
[10:10]  You: yes please
[10:10]  Lydia Milner: ok :)
[10:10]  You: btw if its okay with everyone, we're going to save the local chat from this conversation
[10:10]  Lydia Milner: I reall yliek this project. The large mesh fog collectors
[10:10]  Lydia Milner: (yes) :)
[10:10]  KK Jewell: Sure
[10:10]  ChuChu Ricardo: fine
[10:10]  Evus Mizin: ok
[10:11]  Lydia Milner: are placed in areas that have little water fall , but they do have the benefit of
[10:11]  Lydia Milner: moisture int eh air, as fog or dew.
[10:11]  Lydia Milner: and this can be cuahgt and utilised for drinking and farming uses
[10:11]  Lydia Milner: in the project I want to site hte details of two real locations, and then compare these to 3 theoretical locations
[10:12]  Lydia Milner: eg. death valley, san jose and either washington dc or NYC.
[10:12]  Lydia Milner: as i thought people coudl relate to these.
[10:12]  You: what were the hills for?
[10:12]  Lydia Milner: lol, oh coz the fog coleectors are genreally sited on hills I bleeive.
[10:12]  Lydia Milner: I have only skimmed their webpage so far, need to read it in detail
[10:12]  You: i'm wondering about DC or NYC because they don't get much fog, but do get a lot of rain
[10:13]  Lorenza Rokocoko is Online
[10:13]  Lydia Milner: ah ok, so somehwere where littel or no rain, but that is commonly known
[10:13]  Lydia Milner: the reason is that I have never beent o any of the fogquest countries but I ahve been to e.g. death valley,
[10:13]  You: costa rica has lots of fog
[10:14]  Lydia Milner: so with those two sets of stats I coudl apprecaite what it is liek to need water in these palces
[10:14]  You: hi dancers
[10:14]  Lydia Milner: typing is still as bad as usual :)
[10:14]  You: no problem with the typing, we know what you mean
[10:15]  You: does anyone know of any foggy places that don't get much rain?
[10:15]  Lydia Milner: brb
[10:15]  Lydia Milner: ok
[10:16]  You: so for thos of you who are new to this whole adventure
[10:16]  Lydia Milner: i can do some research on the web to get what i am loking for , but not this week :)
[10:16]  Lydia Milner: Hi Dancers :)
[10:16]  Lorenza Rokocoko: Hello everyone
[10:16]  You: we've just launched this idea for tech awards
[10:16]  You: hi lorenza
[10:16]  Lydia Milner: oh Hi Lorenza :) lol you were out of my sight :)
[10:16]  Dancers Yao: HI
[10:16]  You: with the overarching theme of "technology benefitting humanity"
[10:17]  Lorenza Rokocoko: ;)
[10:17]  Lydia Milner: Shakini is the village setting still a part of the exhibition?
[10:18]  KK Jewell: Sakini have to go to RL meeting will you keep trancripts?
[10:18]  You: lydia - is there any help you need on your projects?
[10:18]  You: do you want to tell people about i see my life as well?
[10:18]  Lydia Milner: hmm, I need someone to do the ironing, any offers? :)
[10:19]  You: yes, we'll post all the transcripts on the techvirtual website
[10:19]  You: thanks for coming KK!
[10:19]  KK Jewell: Great..Thanks
[10:19]  Lydia Milner: At the moment I am still trying to firm up what I actually want to do, I am in one those times when my head keeps bouncing all over hte place
[10:19]  KK Jewell: Will come to the next and see if I have any ideas:)
[10:19]  Lydia Milner: Bye KK :)
[10:19]  You: it will be more of an urban context than a village
[10:19]  KK Jewell: Bye all
[10:19]  Lorenza Rokocoko: bye KK
[10:19]  You: even though a number of these projects actually originate in rural areas
[10:20]  You: we don't want there to be a feeling of stereotyping less developed countries/projects in this exhibit
[10:20]  Lydia Milner: no.
[10:20]  Lorenza Rokocoko: It has to look like any place, so people can identify with it
[10:20]  Lydia Milner: yes, that makes sense.
[10:20]  Lorenza Rokocoko: locally and globally
[10:20]  Lydia Milner: to be honest I have so far been 'thinking inside the exhibt kiosk'
[10:20]  Lydia Milner: as per content and layout.
[10:20]  You: that being said, it probably wouldn't make sense to put the fogquest up in the middle of the marketplace
[10:21]  You: so we were planning to have it be in the "park" setting
[10:21]  Lydia Milner: last night I started to think outside of this as I firm up which bits to keep in and what too discard
[10:21]  Lydia Milner: I cant quite get my head around the kickstart in a bank though lol
[10:21]  You: the kickstart pump in the bank came from its name "moneymaker pump"
[10:22]  Lydia Milner: ah, ok
[10:22]  You: even though it is so tied to food and agriculture
[10:22]  You: the one thing that it is especially well known for is helping people out of poverty
[10:22]  Lydia Milner: yes, i do want to put more emphasis on the money side of it, althought hat is sugested by the crops and people pop ups etc
[10:23]  You: wealth can come in many forms!
[10:23]  You: we have the bank situated next to the cafe/farmer's market area
[10:23]  Lorenza Rokocoko: maybe if the pumping makes a graphic where the crops grow and the money too...
[10:23]  Lydia Milner: mmm, maybe a large graph showing avg gnp per head, and the peoples before and after income
[10:23]  You: so placing the pump in the bank next door will also create connetion as you pass through the exhibit
[10:23]  Lydia Milner: yes thats an idea
[10:23]  You: growing money
[10:23]  You: thats what banks do too
[10:23]  Lydia Milner: yes i was eondering about that last night, about putting hte pump int eh bank but the rest through the wall, say to a field outside
[10:24]  You: the other thing about tieing in with the bank is the potential to create a connection re: microloans
[10:24]  Lorenza Rokocoko: peolple can get food for their own, but also food to sell, so the "wealth" is in two senses
[10:24]  You: even $75 is a lot of money for people to come up with if they only make $30-$40/year
[10:25]  Lydia Milner: yes, you mean KIVA isnt it?
[10:25]  Lorenza Rokocoko: yes KIVA
[10:25]  You: one other side effect from the new found wealth is also the extra cash that lets people send their kids to school
[10:26]  You: kiva is one of the microloans programs
[10:26]  Lydia Milner: yes, so that could lead onto the school building
[10:26]  You: but we also have muhammed yunus as our global humanitarian this year at the tech awards
[10:26]  You: (from the grameen bank)
[10:26]  Lorenza Rokocoko: school = access to information
[10:26]  Lydia Milner: and then some poeple need their adaptive eyewear to be able to read the school books :)
[10:26]  Lydia Milner: a life cycle :)
[10:26]  You: exactly!
[10:27]  You: i was thinking maybe we could videotape muhammed yunus while he is here
[10:27]  You: and have him be behind one of the bank teller "windows"
[10:27]  You: to explain microloans
[10:27]  Lorenza Rokocoko: that's a great idea! real people...
[10:27]  Lydia Milner: i must admit i have struggled to visualise the exhbs as i dont know hte setting, the 'stage', but then if you released the stage it would restrict people's visions of their exhbs to fit in
[10:27]  Lydia Milner: yes thats a good idea :)
[10:28]  You: we are just now working with a set designer
[10:28]  You: to flesh out some of the physical ideas for the exhibit
[10:28]  Lydia Milner: oh good
[10:28]  You: we have a few rough sketches
[10:28]  You: but hope to have more soon
[10:28]  You: i could post these, but definitely don't want people to feel restricted byt his
[10:29]  Lydia Milner: hmm, thinking about that life cycle, it should flow both ways
[10:29]  You: the space itself is approximately 3000 square feet and includes a bridge walkway and small theater
[10:29]  Lydia Milner: so could be as you enter the hall, clinic, school, market, bank, farm/growing/river
[10:29]  Lydia Milner: oh cool
[10:29]  You: yes
[10:29]  Lydia Milner: ok about 55ft each way
[10:30]  You: you can enter from different areas as well
[10:30]  You: in the center we will have a large tree that will be the call to action area
[10:30]  Lydia Milner: call toa ction?
[10:30]  You: this is where we hope people will be inspired to "take action"
[10:30]  Lydia Milner: ah, ok
[10:31]  You: for example, contact elected officials
[10:31]  You: join other local groups working on similar issues
[10:31]  You: sign up to volunteer
[10:31]  Lydia Milner: i did think with kickstart soome way to donate water or fund the pumps from museum visitors woule d be nice
[10:31]  You: post nominations for tech awards projects in the future
[10:31]  You: we definitely want to have a donation box
[10:31]  You: even small amounts can make such a huge difference
[10:32]  You: and thats part of the point of this as well
[10:32]  You: especially if we can instill that in kids
[10:32]  Lorenza Rokocoko: Garvie is thinking on making the KIVA kiosk ready to receive donations...
[10:32]  You: kids in Silicon Valley may think of $75 as the cost of a video game, but it also has the potential to radically change a family's life in another part of the world
[10:32]  Lydia Milner: yes, from SL isnt it?
[10:33]  Lorenza Rokocoko: the exhibits should inspire and get into action
[10:33]  Lorenza Rokocoko: yes in SL
[10:33]  Lydia Milner: are any of the tech awrd co's featured local? ar ethere any volutneer or work experieicnce opportunities with them?
[10:33]  You: i like that the you can dew exhibit will feature san jose as one of the cities, since we are also trying to tie into the "spirit of silicon valley"
[10:34]  You: there are a few projects that are local to the bay area
[10:34]  You: blue energy group is based in SF but their work is done in nicaragua
[10:34]  Lydia Milner: good :) I tohught it would give local interest and also aid understanding an your visitors are familiar with SJ weather :)
[10:34]  Lorenza Rokocoko: but the diversity of the projects is wide
[10:35]  Lydia Milner: are any of them looking for bright and eager young work experience/gap year volunteers that this could inform?
[10:35]  You: we have droughts around the bay area every few years and water rationing happens as well here, so it is quite relevant
[10:35]  You: possibly
[10:35]  Lydia Milner: yes, amazingly we get water rationing in Englland, only ofr the part of the year when people arent monaing hta tit rains all the time lol
[10:35]  You: we haven't really investigated that side of things yet
[10:36]  Lydia Milner: ohok
[10:36]  Lydia Milner: i thought that some people could be inspired to action in the widest sense
[10:36]  You: we were a little worried that we might overwhelm some of the laureate winners if all of a sudden they were inundated with requests for info from the thousands of visitors we get
[10:36]  Lydia Milner: lol
[10:36]  Lydia Milner: you could have more detailed info on your webpage, or links ot theirs, for the projects featured, to provide a front line filter
[10:37]  You: believe it or not, this has been a problem in the past
[10:37]  You: then we need to dedicate someone on this end to be the filter
[10:37]  Lorenza Rokocoko: and ther are algo another hundred projects, where people can browse and learn about other ways to help
[10:37]  Lorenza Rokocoko: or get involved
[10:38]  Lydia Milner: yes. never easy :)
[10:38]  Lydia Milner: do you have any other info on the urban setting that you can give today?
[10:38]  Lydia Milner: or is it mostly up in the air at the moment?
[10:39]  You: i'm not sure but i think the witness program may also be based in the bay area
[10:40]  You: we were trying to keep the projects wide in geographic focus and not seem U.S.-centric
[10:40]  You: is there anything we can do to help you with your projects?
[10:40]  Lydia Milner: yes thats a good point
[10:40]  You: i will try to find out more about fogquest data since i have to get in touch with them anyways
[10:40]  Lydia Milner: hmm, i may need help on scritping some of it, it depends on how much time I get in RL to work on them
[10:41]  You: were there any scripters that you worked with in AFM that we might be ablet o pull in?
[10:41]  Lydia Milner: i did pretty much all fo that myself, or had the scripts already from other sources
[10:42]  Lydia Milner: From my perspective, I weant ot have my cake and eat it, as I usually do :)
[10:42]  You: sounds good - happy birthday!
[10:42]  Lydia Milner: I want ot learn more SL things, and I want to design and buidl exhbs here, so i want to do both in one :)
[10:42]  Lydia Milner: lol
[10:43]  Lydia Milner: so sometimes i go with an idea beacuse i CAN learn at the same time. as wiht this sounds fun, I learnt alot about sounds :)
[10:43]  You: thats the best way to do anything - i like that myself
[10:43]  Lydia Milner: and then went and did a foley soudns workshop at my daughters kindergaten
[10:43]  Lydia Milner: so it was all rather holstic, which I like in life :)
[10:43]  You: dropping watermelons makes a great sound!
[10:44]  Lydia Milner: lol
[10:44]  Lorenza Rokocoko: but is great that you could test things first!!
[10:44]  Lydia Milner: we have to stick with very very safe things :)
[10:44]  You: do you know about filmsound.org?
[10:44]  You: walter murch has some terrific articles posted there
[10:44]  Lydia Milner: hmmm, i tihnk i looked there
[10:44]  You: i.e. stretching sound to help the mind see
[10:44]  Lydia Milner: i think it is black and white?
[10:45]  Lydia Milner: i did masses of research on that and left litlte time for buidling lol
[10:45]  Lydia Milner: but it was all very interesting
[10:45]  Lydia Milner: i also want to learn qavimator so I want ot do my own anims, but time may limit my plans
[10:45]  You: another really great book on sound design is called "the expressive power of music, voice and sound effects in cinema" by david sonnenschein
[10:46]  Lydia Milner: oh that sounds intersting. I think the company I sued most for info was... mad dog? i think?
[10:46]  Lydia Milner: i have notes smewhere
[10:46]  You: what is quavimator?
[10:46]  Lydia Milner: oh, its a free software thingy specifacally for making animiations in SL
[10:47]  You: i'm learning too!
[10:47]  You: i will get back to you as soon as i hear something from the fogquest folks -- i guess we should nail down the cities for the request
[10:47]  Lydia Milner: yes ok, thats a good idea.
[10:47]  You: definitely san jose, death valley
[10:48]  You: and maybe they could suggest an east coast city
[10:48]  You: how about maine??
[10:48]  Lydia Milner: my husband just got me photoshop cs2 as a present so onteh plane I will either be reading that book, or a scripting book, or still mocking out designs :)
[10:48]  Lydia Milner: east coast is a good idea
[10:48]  You: don't they get a lot of fog?
[10:49]  Lydia Milner: i am going to north carolina so I coud use somewhere there
[10:49]  Lydia Milner: help me, is maine down from boston?
[10:49]  You: maine is above boston
[10:49]  You: just below canada
[10:49]  Lydia Milner: ok , i have been to boston
[10:49]  Lydia Milner: now i know hwere canada is lol
[10:49]  You: where are you located?
[10:49]  Lydia Milner: England
[10:49]  You: a ha!
[10:50]  You: bristol?
[10:50]  Lydia Milner: dancers, I am not seeing any text from you yet I see you typing. Is it just me?
[10:50]  Lydia Milner: now, but I know it well, Plymouth in Devon
[10:50]  Dancers Yao: Shakini, having trouble sending messages, is there a way to email you later?
[10:50]  You: yes, you can reach me at: tblaine@thetech.org
[10:51]  You: are you seeing our messages okay but just having trouble typing?
[10:51]  Lydia Milner: logging out and back in soemtimes clears that
[10:51]  Dancers Yao: yes...thanks will say bye for today
[10:51]  Lydia Milner: bye Dancers :)
[10:51]  You: bye dancers - email me anytime
[10:52]  Lorenza Rokocoko: bye Dancers
[10:52]  You: lydia, thanks for all your great energy and input - i'm excited to see how these projects develop!
[10:52]  Lydia Milner: me too :)
[10:53]  Lydia Milner: I will neeed to firm up my ideas and email you requestes for pics and stuff from their webpages
[10:53]  You: btw - what time is it where you are?
[10:53]  Lydia Milner: and can I check with you the june 1st etc dates, I notice the descritpion has changed?
[10:53]  Lydia Milner: 7pm almost
[10:53]  You: you should grab anything you want off their website or ours...
[10:53]  Lydia Milner: I am not too far from Bristol
[10:54]  Lydia Milner: so off yours I email Rob yes? and off theirs I ask you, or go direct?
[10:54]  You: i'm going to be in europe in a few weeks and hope i'll be able to have internet access to connect from there for these meetings at the right time
[10:54]  Lydia Milner: oh wonderful, where are you coming to?
[10:55]  You: i'm going to a conference in italy and then i'll be in amsterdam at STEIM, the studio for electroinstrumental music
[10:55]  Lydia Milner: that sounds like fun! I forgot you are a muscian, I read that some time ago :)
[10:55]  Lydia Milner: I hope you have a successful trip
[10:55]  You: thanks!
[10:56]  Lydia Milner: oh, i forgot about firming up the locations
[10:56]  Lydia Milner: maybe i will get out a map and then look in the internet for some basic weather data
[10:56]  You: sounds good - just let me know what you decide
[10:57]  Lydia Milner: ok. I am pretty tied up this week but hope to have more time next week for this
[10:57]  Lydia Milner: I have stopped looking at the project lists in case I get any more ideas lol
[10:57]  You: great -- we'll see you next week!!
[10:57]  Lydia Milner: ok, take care, bye :)
[10:58]  Lorenza Rokocoko: Thank you Lydia, your enthusiasm is an inspiration!
[10:58]  You: ciao bellezzi
[10:58]  Lydia Milner: you're welcome :)
