[10:16] Al Supercharge accepted your inventory offer.
[10:16] Garvie Garzo: lol
[10:16] Garvie Garzo: if only that were possible
[10:16] Ponder Constantine: hehehe
[10:16] Ponder Constantine accepted your inventory offer.
[10:16] Shakini Parnass: i thought thats what we're all working on...
[10:16] Garvie Garzo: lol
[10:17] Shakini Parnass: so welcome again everyone - its nice to see you all
[10:17] Ponder Constantine: Thank you...i´m willing to learn
[10:17] Shakini Parnass: stephe can you show us the drawings
[10:18] Shakini Parnass: FYI these are documents that i've been working on with our set designer
[10:18] Shakini Parnass: to give some context to what the "urban marketplace" in RL will look like in the gallery
[10:18] Al Supercharge: in 25 groups already
[10:18] Shakini Parnass: still in the rough draft stage
[10:18] Autopilot canceled
[10:19] You: If you follow me, I'll show you the drawings that Shakini provided for UcanTu
[10:20] You: They're overh here
[10:21] You: Shakini, can you explain this set design?
[10:21] Shakini Parnass: so this document here is an overview of the gallery space
[10:22] Lydia Milner: I cant actually read this one
[10:22] Shakini Parnass: the center is showing the "footprint" of the call to action tree
[10:22] You: The print is pretty small, but then it was intended as a blueprint, not a poster
[10:23] Shakini Parnass: the bottom left has been edited since this was drawn, but ius currently showing the solar sailor
[10:23] Lydia Milner: no. I've got a few of thenm, maknig my eyes hurt :)
[10:23] Shakini Parnass: the middle area on the bottom is fogquest (we can dew)
[10:23] Garvie Garzo: lol
[10:23] Garvie Garzo: great nameaswell
[10:24] Shakini Parnass: the health are is next to the "park"
[10:24] Lydia Milner: i tihnk i was ironing when that gem hit me, its always in the ironing, a lesson for life :)
[10:24] You: *area*
[10:24] Shakini Parnass: adaptive lenses, jaipur foot and the morsand filter
[10:24] Garvie Garzo: soup making works for me.. whole essays
[10:24] Lydia Milner: lol
[10:25] Shakini Parnass: you will be able to "see through" the tree
[10:25] Shakini Parnass: stations will be set up here to access all of the tech awards projects
[10:25] Shakini Parnass: as well as local organizations, political representatives
[10:25] Shakini Parnass: nominations for future tech awards laureates, volunteering opportunities, etc.
[10:26] Lydia Milner: all at the tree?
[10:26] Shakini Parnass: there will be stations at each trunk of the treeacross the gallery on the other side is the school
[10:26] Shakini Parnass: and the "bank"
[10:26] Shakini Parnass: the school will have the talking tactile tablet, freeplay radio and bunker roy's barefoot college
[10:27] Shakini Parnass: the bank will house the kickstart pump, cell bazaar and kiva.org
[10:27] Garvie Garzo: what is this big greenish thing?
[10:27] Lydia Milner: what are the hexagons at the top?
[10:27] Garvie Garzo: an exhibit?
[10:27] Shakini Parnass: the hexagons are representing flattened umbrellas from a top perspective
[10:27] Lydia Milner: oh ok
[10:27] Garvie Garzo: `ok
[10:28] You: I think the hexagons are umbrellas in the farments' market
[10:28] Shakini Parnass: the curvilinear lines are part of an overhead sculptural element that will tie all the spaces together and create a modern "souk" feel
[10:28] Shakini Parnass: to be able to cast shadows and a feeling of bringing the outside inside
[10:28] Garvie Garzo: ok, cool
[10:29] Lydia Milner: Does something say 'gliding' next to info?
[10:29] You: the gallery in the blueprint is shown in the upper left of the map of the museum, to the left
[10:29] Lydia Milner: its shaded
[10:29] You: except the blueprint is upside down w.r.t. the map
[10:29] Lydia Milner: is that behind where the canapes were?
[10:30] Garvie Garzo: lol
[10:30] Garvie Garzo: no, it makes sense now
[10:30] You: the green thing is a sketch of the trees in the middle of the gallery
[10:30] Shakini Parnass is Offline
[10:30] Garvie Garzo: ah
[10:31] You: the colors had a bad accident on the way to SL
[10:31] Lydia Milner: lol
[10:31] You: and the sketch on the right is the farmers market
[10:31] Garvie Garzo: so the entrance is the left side ofthe blueprint?
[10:31] You: upper left - right
[10:32] Lydia Milner: Where is AFM on this map?
[10:32] Shakini Parnass is Online
[10:32] You: all those lines are sort of a slatrted awning
[10:32] Garvie Garzo: that small rectangular room will house the farmers' market?
[10:32] You: *slatted*
[10:32] You: it's acutally a bridge
[10:32] Garvie Garzo: ah, ok
[10:32] Shakini Parnass: the farmer's market is going to line the bridge walkway that runs parallel to the gallery
[10:33] Garvie Garzo: nice
[10:33] You: if you look at the museum map on the left
[10:33] Shakini Parnass: the small area outside the elevators will have a few tables with "menus" of the exhibit offerings
[10:33] Shakini Parnass: thats what those hexagon shapes are there...
[10:33] Shakini Parnass: sorry i crashed when you were asking about the tree earlier
[10:33] You: so that's the 'cafe' ?
[10:33] Lydia Milner: where are the elevators?
[10:34] Shakini Parnass: the top of the tree is part of the sculpture that will link all the spaces together
[10:34] You: upper right in the diagram
[10:34] Shakini Parnass: the elevator is next to the upside down "L" shape with the circle next to it
[10:34] Lydia Milner: ah ok
[10:34] Lydia Milner: got it thx
[10:34] Shakini Parnass: we have to keep fairly large areas open for clearance
[10:34] Lydia Milner: yes
[10:35] Lydia Milner: and this is the top floor of the museum?
[10:35] Garvie Garzo: open areas are good anyway
[10:35] Garvie Garzo: especially for this
[10:35] You: top floor, yes
[10:35] Shakini Parnass: yes this is the 2nd floor of the museum
[10:35] Shakini Parnass: at the top of the escalator
[10:35] Shakini Parnass: currently in the space next to art film and music
[10:35] Garvie Garzo: it's sorta behind th test zone, right?
[10:35] Lydia Milner: ah, ok, where the nobels are right now?
[10:35] Shakini Parnass: si
[10:35] You: except for the roof garden and the rebirth sculpture
[10:35] Shakini Parnass: exactly
[10:36] Shakini Parnass: this will replace the nobel exhibit
[10:36] Lydia Milner: ok got it, thanks :)
[10:36] Shakini Parnass: just to provide a little more info about the call to action tree
[10:36] Garvie Garzo: lysia, that litte theatre is where musical chairs ended up, masterpiece is just outside...
[10:36] Shakini Parnass: it will be "skinned" over truss
[10:36] You: exactamundo!
[10:37] Shakini Parnass: with monitors embedded on one or both sides
[10:37] Shakini Parnass: these could also be areas for exhibits as well
[10:37] Shakini Parnass: the current plan is to keep everything off the walls
[10:37] Shakini Parnass: everything has to be completely standalone
[10:37] Shakini Parnass: no text will be on the walls at all either
[10:38] Garvie Garzo: nice
[10:38] Shakini Parnass: this will make it easier to swap projects out in the future
[10:38] Shakini Parnass: and will allow the entire gallery space to become part of the urban marketplace environment
[10:38] Lydia Milner: that sounds good
[10:38] Shakini Parnass: it does make it a challenge though to include all of the exhibits that were selected
[10:39] Shakini Parnass: finding enough space for all these and accounting for traffic flow
[10:39] Garvie Garzo: yeah, what's the square footage on that space?
[10:39] Shakini Parnass: will probably mean that we'll ahve to cut out a few more exhibits
[10:39] Shakini Parnass: total square footage is approximately 3000
[10:39] Garvie Garzo: ok, that's not bad
[10:39] Lydia Milner: do you have a target total on final exhibits?
[10:40] Shakini Parnass: this diagram shows everything up against the walls
[10:40] Lydia Milner: yes
[10:40] Shakini Parnass: but in the most recent drawing things have moved out a bit
[10:40] Shakini Parnass: more angles, set elements, etc.
[10:40] Lydia Milner: the fluid-off hte walls sounds good
[10:40] Shakini Parnass: the tree has become a little more condensed as well
[10:41] Shakini Parnass: we are in the process of getting actual props from the laureates
[10:41] Shakini Parnass: we just received the mesh from the fogquest folks
[10:41] Lydia Milner: oh great!
[10:41] Shakini Parnass: it looks kind of like deer netting that would go over plants in a garden
[10:41] Lydia Milner: i put some sketches on the web y/day
[10:42] Lydia Milner: that sounds good
[10:42] Lydia Milner: they have a good webpage with good shots form diff angles
[10:42] Garvie Garzo: shakini, what was that about monitors in the tree?
[10:42] Garvie Garzo: video?
[10:42] Shakini Parnass: each trunk of the tree will probably have touchscreens embedded on one or both sides
[10:42] Shakini Parnass: this will be for people to access more info about the projects
[10:42] Garvie Garzo: ok
[10:43] Shakini Parnass: and/or will also include some of the exhibits
[10:43] Lydia Milner: will ppl be able to donate at these?
[10:43] Shakini Parnass: probably a mix of both
[10:43] Garvie Garzo: yes, it wpould be great to carry that througout
[10:43] Shakini Parnass: we talked about the logistics of being able to handle currency yesterday
[10:43] Garvie Garzo: omg typo central again
[10:43] Garvie Garzo: and..
[10:43] Shakini Parnass: our tech team here is more inclined to want to support the virtual dollars that we discussed as a tech tag experience
[10:44] Shakini Parnass: i.e. people could "donate" virtually to different projects
[10:44] Garvie Garzo: ok, cool
[10:44] Shakini Parnass: but we will probably end up having to link them to the actual websites to make hard cash donations
[10:44] Shakini Parnass: although we could certainly have a donation box somewhere if we can find space
[10:44] Garvie Garzo: yes, i am having difficulty with the middleman stuff as well
[10:44] Shakini Parnass: what do you mean?
[10:45] You: for the Kiva kiosks, no?
[10:45] Lydia Milner: yes, a fake loaf of bread inthe farmers mkt with a slot in the top hehe
[10:45] Garvie Garzo: well. how to set it up to BYPASS me entirely and go straight to kiva.. in my case anyway
[10:45] Shakini Parnass: or a little "piggy"
[10:46] Orcaman Xue: are you talking about the kiva.com people?
[10:46] Garvie Garzo: yes
[10:46] Garvie Garzo: is there a symbol or statue or whatever corresponding to the tech awards?
[10:46] Shakini Parnass: so orcaman, we sort of jumped into all this, but all the RL projects that this virtual exhibit is going to be based upon are posted at: thetechvirtual.org
[10:47] Garvie Garzo: if si that would make a good donation station
[10:47] Shakini Parnass: there is a group of people working on what that is going to be, but its not been determined yet
[10:47] Shakini Parnass: at the moment, the only thing they've been using is a the awards statue of the globe
[10:47] Garvie Garzo: ok, well that's a nice theme... symbol
[10:48] Garvie Garzo: you could use it on a screen or 3d.. clck here and have your credit card or tech tag ready
[10:49] Shakini Parnass: some of the folks here have already started projects and may be looking for assistance with scripting, modeling, etc. if any of the newer exhibit builders like ponder or orcaman are interested in getting involved
[10:49] Lydia Milner: i coudl do with help
[10:49] Lydia Milner: i am maxed out in rl for a couple weeks
[10:49] Garvie Garzo: what sort of help?
[10:49] Dancers Yao: me too
[10:49] Orcaman Xue: i am interested in learning scripting
[10:50] You: Dancers has already started an exhibit project that's behind us.
[10:50] Ponder Constantine: don´t think i can be useful...just gettin´bou 10% of what u said here :(
[10:50] Orcaman Xue: I honestly thought this was a "learning scripting" class
[10:50] Shakini Parnass: stephe does teach scripting classes here
[10:50] Garvie Garzo: :)
[10:50] Lydia Milner: lol
[10:50] Garvie Garzo: well, you will learn some if you end up needing it to build something
[10:51] Shakini Parnass: usually on fridays -- he just had to answer the phone, so i'll have him give more info in a minute on that
[10:51] Lydia Milner: Stephe's clas is tomorrow at
[10:51] Shakini Parnass: does anyone have any other questions about these sketches?
[10:52] Lydia Milner: 11am slt
[10:52] Dancers Yao: how do they translate to SL?
[10:53] Shakini Parnass: we're not going to build the set in SL since it will probably make everyone's projects here crash by using up too much server capacity
[10:53] Lydia Milner: lol
[10:53] Garvie Garzo: when is the deadline for sl?
[10:53] Shakini Parnass: but we wanted to let you have an idea as to what the RL environment is projected to be like
[10:53] Garvie Garzo: i am so out of the loop on everything
[10:53] Shakini Parnass: the deadline for SL is the end of july
[10:53] You: sorry, afk
[10:53] Lydia Milner: its been very helpful Shakini, thanks
[10:53] Garvie Garzo: ok, that's a relief.. i feared june
[10:54] You: Dancers, do you want to say anything about your project that's behind us?

UcanTu meeting 6/24/08

[10:54] Shakini Parnass: we were planning to do a review a the beginning of july, but there hasn't been a lot of activity beyond the initial setup of projects
[10:54] Lydia Milner: yes, i was hoping to do more bldg b4 Jul but cant now
[10:55] Orcaman Xue: hello
[10:55] Garvie Garzo: wow, the wattage is extreme
[10:55] Shakini Parnass: dancers, is this going to be the big drum?
[10:56] Orcaman Xue: so, who does the scripting classes?
[10:56] Garvie Garzo: is this glow?
[10:56] Lydia Milner: aaaait look sgreat at midnight
[10:56] You: Orcaman, I do a scripting class tomorrow
[10:56] Lydia Milner: 11am
[10:56] Dancers Yao: sorry Garvie - thanks I do like it though
[10:57] You: at 11 in the sandbox nearby
[10:57] Ponder Constantine: i would love 2 come, stephe
[10:57] Lydia Milner: i do building and textures at 12 on thurs
[10:57] You: sure, please do
[10:57] Lydia Milner: sam
[10:57] Lydia Milner: same place
[10:58] Lydia Milner: nb jutrkl 8oklt ,6vk
[10:58] Ponder Constantine: tschuldige, dass ich dir vorhin keinen guten tag gewünscht habe...6.tag, viel zuviel alles :)
[10:58] Dancers Yao: Shakini - I have selected the video from Witness. org HUB - will send the URL - will be shown on the wall screen
[10:58] Lydia Milner: sorry that was not my typing
[10:59] You: aufwiedersehen, Ponder!
[10:59] Shakini Parnass: dancers, could you talk a little more about how you intend the drum relates to the human rights experiences? it all seemed a bit metaphorical in your description and hard to wrap my head around...
[10:59] Dancers Yao: Shakini - yes
[10:59] Ulysse Alexandre: Stephe, do you have a LM for TheTech presentation for the SL5B exhibt?
[11:00] Ponder Constantine: yeah, i guess it´s too early 4 me to keep on listening here, bye evry1
[11:00] Shakini Parnass: bye ponder - thanx for coming
[11:00] Garvie Garzo: no, you should comebacl.. check the website, and you'll know what we're talking about
[11:01] You: bye, Ponder
[11:01] Ponder Constantine: oh i will come back, when i learned i bit more...
[11:01] Ponder Constantine: cy´all
[11:01] Lydia Milner: bye Ponmder :)
[11:01] Garvie Garzo: http://thetechvirtual.org/projects/ucantu-projects/
[11:01] Ulysse Alexandre: bye Ponder
[11:01] Garvie Garzo: click that ponder
[11:02] Garvie Garzo: oh well
[11:02] Dancers Yao: the interaction with the touch screen drum top will give a chance for people to create their own images of how an individual can be part of a community and still respect their human rights - I have added more to the Wiki and will continue to explain how the interaction will work - to have them list the names of the Human Rights they feel are important
[11:02] treadmill says: Enjoy your walk.
[11:02] Garvie Garzo: i seem to have missed sensor
[11:03] Shakini Parnass: so the drum is actually a touchscreen and not intended to be played -- that was part of the confusion for me
[11:04] Dancers Yao: Yes - It is played in the sense of moving the images around - e.g. skin color - does not affect the essential Human Rights - one would be "playing" with their images and concepts of what human rights mean to them
[11:05] Garvie Garzo: nice
[11:05] Garvie Garzo: drum is a good metaphor for universal speech too
[11:05] Shakini Parnass: universal everything
[11:05] Orcaman Xue: the drum is also very unifying for me
[11:05] Dancers Yao: so they would see how something can be changed - keeping the diversity but also keeping our common humanity
[11:06] Orcaman Xue: it's the soul of music and the driving force behind it
[11:06] Shakini Parnass: agreed!
[11:06] Dancers Yao: Yes - thanks - the video on one wall screen will show Nelson Mandela speaking about human rights with drum music in the background -
[11:07] You: where are you from, Orcaman?
[11:07] You: you sound like a musician
[11:07] Shakini Parnass: nice
[11:07] Lydia Milner: sooryy ive been away, that sounds really good
[11:08] Orcaman Xue: in this instance it looks as if you've captured hate
[11:08] Garvie Garzo: ?
[11:08] You: why so?
[11:08] Orcaman Xue: <sigh>
[11:09] Orcaman Xue: this is so sad to explain but I still in life see so much "color based" hate
[11:09] Orcaman Xue: the drum is a moving force that's violent to the music
[11:10] Orcaman Xue: it's adbupt
[11:10] Orcaman Xue: and yet the driving and motivating force of the music itself
[11:10] Garvie Garzo: i dunno
[11:10] Lydia Milner: sorry everyone, I have to get my rugrat in bed, I will be back later :)
[11:10] Garvie Garzo: drum reminds me of heartbeat
[11:11] Shakini Parnass: bye lydia
[11:11] Dancers Yao: Yes - that's why I feel it is a good example to show why skin color can be changed but each person deserves to be treated equally - and the different images will show that
[11:11] Ulysse Alexandre: bye Lydia
[11:11] You: bye Lydia, bye Amelia!
[11:11] Dancers Yao: bye lydia
[11:11] Garvie Garzo: i was in a great impromtu drumming jam yesterday on roffie dingo's stuff
[11:11] Orcaman Xue: you've captured it by putting the screen in the drum as to taking out frustrations
[11:12] Dancers Yao: I hope the energy will be used to create something wonderful together
[11:12] Garvie Garzo: maybe a bunch of drums then?
[11:12] Garvie Garzo: like a steel band.. or conga setup
[11:13] Orcaman Xue: it's almost as if your saying this is something we have to deal w/ by hitting it
[11:13] Dancers Yao: Sounds great
[11:13] Dancers Yao: sounds great - meant for Garvie
[11:13] You: hit back at racism?
[11:13] Garvie Garzo: yes, but hitting in this case is expression in music or in this exhibit in pictures
[11:13] Lydia Milner: it appears she doensst want to go to bed....
[11:14] Lydia Milner: i tihnk drum symbolises basic findamental communication
[11:14] Garvie Garzo: rugrats never wabt to go to bed
[11:14] Lydia Milner: spread the message
[11:14] Dancers Yao: Drum - won't be hit - but played - like a touch screen computer - touched litely - like creating a sculpture
[11:14] Orcaman Xue: I like to think of it as hitting back at racists
[11:14] Lydia Milner: yeah, she said 'look mummy your computer'
[11:14] Shakini Parnass: actually, "hitting" the drum as a way to address racism is quite provocative -- i think you're onto something here orcaman
[11:14] Garvie Garzo: tell her i have the exact same problem... lol
[11:14] Lydia Milner: haha
[11:15] Garvie Garzo: 2 hrs sleep yestrday, so thrilled to be back online
[11:15] Shakini Parnass: in my mind, having people around a shared instrument is usually a positive experience where people have to really listen to each other
[11:15] Orcaman Xue: well think for a moment
[11:15] Lydia Milner: ow!
[11:15] Orcaman Xue: how this reaches our life?
[11:15] Garvie Garzo: yes, what shakini said
[11:15] Lydia Milner: yes, listen and get in rhythm
[11:15] Garvie Garzo: native americans use drumming crcles intentionally.. with dancers sometimes in the middle
[11:15] Shakini Parnass: leadership generally emerges where one person helps facilitate the rhythm or everything tends to fall into chaotic interaction
[11:16] You: Shakini IS a drummer in RL
[11:16] Garvie Garzo: ah, the drum.. an infinitely rich metaphor :)
[11:16] Shakini Parnass: but racism is a really difficult issue to address, so why not take it on with a drum and "hitting" the issue directly?
[11:16] Orcaman Xue: so THAT explains it
[11:16] Orcaman Xue: LOL
[11:16] Garvie Garzo: oh, coool
[11:16] Dancers Yao: Shakini - your picture will be on one of the screens - and I think the different examples will show how a community image can be created
[11:17] Bjorlyn Loon is Offline
[11:17] Shakini Parnass: i don't know which picture you are planning to use, but there are probably better "drum circle" shots available online that might capture what you're going after
[11:17] Shakini Parnass: the idea behind a drum circle is that everyone is "equal"
[11:18] You: you could have a camera capture images of visitors faces, and have them appear on the surace of the drum
[11:18] Shakini Parnass: no part is more or less important than any other, but all work together to create the overall rhythm - the sum is greater than any of the individual parts
[11:18] Orcaman Xue: hmmmm
[11:19] Orcaman Xue: I would tend to disagree
[11:19] Orcaman Xue: I would put a projector in the roof onto the drum
[11:19] Dancers Yao: The one with D'Cukoo - Stephe - that's in my exhibit experience Wiki - the camera takes a pix of the avatar to place on the outer drum ring -
[11:20] Orcaman Xue: then make the drum hitable
[11:20] Orcaman Xue: that way it's interactive
[11:21] Garvie Garzo: is it something like the tilting table in the test zone?
[11:22] Orcaman Xue: are you asking me?
[11:23] Garvie Garzo: no, dancers
[11:23] Shakini Parnass: orcaman, earlier you said that the drum is the soul of music and the driving force behind it, so where does the violent aspect of drumming come into play for you?
[11:23] Orcaman Xue: making the music
[11:23] Orcaman Xue: hitting the drum
[11:24] Orcaman Xue: you don't have a drum you touch as in a touch screen
[11:24] Dancers Yao: The drum top will have 3 concentric rings like the rings of a tree - outer ring holds pix of avatars - middle ring shows variants and possible colors that can be used to explore different skin colors - inner ring holds names of human rights- like equality, justice, freedom an abstract type of collage image - explained more on the URL for this exhibit
[11:24] Garvie Garzo: maybe PLAYING drums then
[11:24] Orcaman Xue: you get a big stick and hit it
[11:24] Alisa Cleanslate: I think it is like the tilting table from the exhibit. But different.
[11:24] Garvie Garzo: ok, cool
[11:24] Garvie Garzo: sounds lovely, dancers.. i will catch up on the website
[11:24] Dancers Yao: thx
[11:25] Orcaman Xue: just as race is something we need to accept but many don't
[11:25] Orcaman Xue: so they "strike" back
[11:25] You: just want to say - if anyone wants to join Dancers in working on this project, go to the Website and ask to join her project
[11:25] Dancers Yao: Thanks everyone for your feedback. Shakini - will send you the pix so you can see where it goes
[11:26] Garvie Garzo: i have serious sl issues with GLOW
[11:26] Garvie Garzo: it occludes rather than exposes anything
[11:26] You: http://thetechvirtual.org/projects/ucantu-projects/creating-a-universal-language/
[11:26] Dancers Yao: Thanks Alisa - will email you soon
[11:26] Shakini Parnass: maybe there could also be a way to trigger voices of civil rights leaders - i.e. snippets of nelson mandela's speech as people play the drum
[11:26] Dancers Yao: thanks stephe
[11:27] Garvie Garzo: or bits of text fromn the speech fromn the dock
[11:27] Dancers Yao: yes - there will be Shakin
[11:27] Alisa Cleanslate: thanks Dancers, talk to you soon.
[11:27] Alisa Cleanslate: Bye everyone, thanks.

[11:29] You: then you have it nailed
[11:29] You: give me as a ref
[11:29] Orcaman Xue: you could put buttons on the outside
[11:29] Shakini Parnass: i think its really great that we're having this discussion about racism -- this is exactly what the exhibit is supposed to elicit for people and its not even built yet!
[11:30] Garvie Garzo: lol, i will stephe.. just IMing now
[11:30] Orcaman Xue: buttons as speakers then take the screen to the speakers and silk screen a photo on them
[11:30] Dancers Yao: Yes - I hope this will be one of the take away experiences
[11:31] Orcaman Xue: I think it's an awesome idea
