[10:03]  You: in Alaska?!!
[10:03]  Perry Later: Is there a "size" limitation when I take an image (jpg or gif) and upload it into SL?
[10:03]  You: hi, Alisa
[10:04]  Alisa Cleanslate: Hi Stephe, hI Dancers & Perry
[10:04]  You: no, but the bigger it is, the longer it takes to rez in
[10:04]  Dancers Yao: yes...I had HP build to SL specs.
[10:04]  You: and 512x512 is usually about all the real resolution anyone gets
[10:04]  Dancers Yao: HI Alisa...sent email this am...thanks for joining
[10:05]  Perry Later: makes sense...my concern has to do with the clarity of the image
[10:05]  Alisa Cleanslate: Dancers, got your email. Glad to join.
[10:05]  You: I believe targa (.tga) images load a bit faster
[10:05]  Lydia Milner is Online
[10:05]  Perry Later: PhotoShop can do those...can't it?
[10:06]  Dancers Yao: Stephe...how is URL coming?
[10:06]  You: So Dancers and Alisa, our IT folks are working on gettting your videos up
[10:06]  Lydia Milner: hi all :)

[10:14]  You: join us Else, we're talkking about building museum exhibits for the UcanTu ehhibition
[10:14]  Shakini Parnass is Online
[10:14]  SC Ireland is Online
[10:16]  Shakini Parnass: Hello everyone
[10:16]  Shakini Parnass: sorry i'm late
[10:16]  Dancers Yao: Hi Shakini
[10:17]  Shakini Parnass: how's everything going?
[10:17]  Lydia Milner: sorry wa away, dinner
[10:17]  Lydia Milner: hi else hi shakini
[10:17]  Shakini Parnass: hi lydia
[10:17]  Alisa Cleanslate: Hi Shakini
[10:18]  Lydia Milner: i've done more building this week
[10:18]  Shakini Parnass: hi all (again) maybe i wasn't in yet when i typed that
[10:18]  Lydia Milner: kickstart and fogquest
[10:18]  Lydia Milner: not much to do now
[10:18]  Dancers Yao: working on it..
[10:18]  Lydia Milner: i've stremlined somewhat, there was a lot in the original concept and you dont have much space
[10:19]  Shakini Parnass: because they're all ready for us to check out?
[10:19]  Shakini Parnass: or because you need more space?
[10:19]  Shakini Parnass: how much space do you need?
[10:19]  Lydia Milner: sorry shakini was that to me?
[10:19]  Lydia Milner: oh i see
[10:20]  Lydia Milner: no, form what i remember of the area and what is ee on teh pic on the wall
[10:20]  Lydia Milner: there doesnt look like much space
[10:20]  Shakini Parnass: does that stop you from realizing your original vision in SL?
[10:20]  Shakini Parnass: we could always modify for RL
[10:21]  Lydia Milner: no, but a deadline two part time jobs, one child, everyone ill , andone assignment left might :)
[10:21]  Shakini Parnass: LOL
[10:22]  Shakini Parnass: so, i must apologize for the confusion around the project list
[10:22]  Shakini Parnass: part of the changes came about because we were working under a set of assumptions that turned out not be our reality in RL or SL
[10:22]  You: bye Else
[10:23]  Shakini Parnass: space is a consideration, but budget has also become much more of a concern for us as well
[10:23]  Shakini Parnass: our timeline moved up to december for soft opening
[10:23]  Lydia Milner: soft opening?
[10:23]  Shakini Parnass: which also puts constraints on our development team to build stuff with only a few months to go
[10:23]  Shakini Parnass: soft opening is the period before an exhibit opens and is officially announced
[10:24]  Lydia Milner: thanks
[10:24]  Shakini Parnass: that gives us time to do guest testing with our visitors and make sure things are ready for prime time
[10:24]  Lydia Milner: like a test release
[10:24]  Shakini Parnass: so, in the confusion around what was and was not going to be possible in our newly shortened timeline
[10:24]  Shakini Parnass: there was a misunderstanding about adapative lenses
[10:25]  Shakini Parnass: we do still want to include those in the exhibit, but we don't physically have a pair in our possession yet
[10:25]  Shakini Parnass: which makes it difficult to develop for
[10:25]  Lydia Milner: lol, yes
[10:25]  Shakini Parnass: we also don't know when we will receive them
[10:25]  Shakini Parnass: so we're having to move forward with a december opening based on what we have inhouse now
[10:25]  Shakini Parnass: unless something changes in the next week or two
[10:26]  Shakini Parnass: unfortunately, lydia you got caught in that confusion
[10:26]  Lydia Milner: so is that one out then?
[10:26]  Shakini Parnass: not necessarily, we just don't have it from the laureat yet
[10:27]  Lydia Milner: brb
[10:27]  Shakini Parnass: the plan now is to do the soft opening in december with whatever we have ready
[10:27]  Shakini Parnass: and then add a few more exhibits in early 2009
[10:28]  Shakini Parnass: how are things going with witness for dancers and alisa?
[10:28]  Shakini Parnass: alisa, were you able to work out the video streaming?
[10:29]  Dancers Yao: Stephe is working on URL
[10:29]  Alisa Cleanslate: I have the instructions, but Stephe is working on url.
[10:29]  Lydia Milner: sorry back
[10:29]  Shakini Parnass: fyi, i got several DVDs from witness
[10:29]  Lydia Milner: ice lollies wait for no one :)
[10:29]  Shakini Parnass: one on burma, one on hiv/aids in the DRC (congo)
[10:30]  Shakini Parnass: one on the california youth authority (CYA)
[10:30]  Alisa Cleanslate: then we have to figure out the machinima part, taking the visitors picture and getging on the drum.
[10:31]  Shakini Parnass: there's one other video on vigilantes on the US borders
[10:31]  Shakini Parnass: and one that stephe gave to our IT person that i haven't seen yet
[10:31]  Dancers Yao: He mentioned a small extension.....did you have the ones I needed?
[10:31]  Shakini Parnass: i requested it, but the above-mentioned is what they sent
[10:31]  You: it was a hi-rez version of the #2 that Dancers asked for
[10:31]  SC Ireland is Offline
[10:31]  Shakini Parnass: would any of those work for you?
[10:32]  Dancers Yao: N.Mandela is the best I've seen for Human rights
[10:32]  You: we still don't have that in hi-rez
[10:33]  Shakini Parnass: it was pretty powerful
[10:33]  Shakini Parnass: these other videos are really potent in different ways
[10:33]  Shakini Parnass: i could barely talk after watching just part of the burma video...
[10:33]  SC Ireland is Online
[10:34]  Dancers Yao: yes...but very specific
[10:34]  Shakini Parnass: they are all disturbing...
[10:36]  Dancers Yao: That's why I want to show ways of seeing alternatives
[10:38]  Shakini Parnass: did you get your computer yet?
[10:38]  Dancers Yao: sorry have to leave early will email more about new updates for project
[10:38]  Shakini Parnass: before you go
[10:38]  Lydia Milner: bye dancers :)
[10:38]  Shakini Parnass: we are going to have a slight extension to august 4th
[10:38]  Shakini Parnass: if that helps
[10:39]  Lydia Milner: thats good tahnks
[10:39]  You: I see we have a new member who wants to join Universal Language and We can Dew
[10:39]  Alisa Cleanslate: Bye Dancers
[10:39]  Shakini Parnass: bye dancers
[10:39]  Lydia Milner: yes, i did we can dew :)
[10:40]  Lydia Milner: brb
[10:40]  Alisa Cleanslate: I joined both projects yesterday, is there someone else?
[10:41]  Shakini Parnass: are you stina cooke?
[10:41]  Dancers Yao: it's coming......being held in Customs...HP is working on it
[10:41]  Alisa Cleanslate: that's me, lol
[10:41]  You: sorry, Alisa, I just realized that's you
[10:41]  Shakini Parnass: aha!
[10:41]  Shakini Parnass: where is your computer coming from??
[10:41]  Alisa Cleanslate: Made it official.
[10:42]  You: also, the Teen Grid had gone mad over UcanTu
[10:42]  Lydia Milner: back
[10:42]  Lydia Milner: yes is aw that, lots of projects form them , thats good :)
[10:42]  You: bye dancers
[10:42]  Lydia Milner: hmm good pose
[10:42]  Lydia Milner: dancers looks liek the bionic woman :)
[10:42]  You: they love Solar Sailor, there are 3 projects for that
[10:42]  Shakini Parnass: i was thinking she looks like a moving statue
[10:42]  Lydia Milner: lol
[10:43]  Shakini Parnass: perry, how are things on your end of the table?
[10:43]  You: she is Dancers, after all
[10:43]  Lydia Milner: lol
[10:44]  Perry Later: WEll...I sat in on the two classes last week and after Lydia closed out the most recent one...I had the revelation on how things worked and all fell into place
[10:44]  Lydia Milner: lol
[10:44]  Shakini Parnass: revelations are always a good thing to have!
[10:45]  Perry Later: I understand the basics now...I am thinking about the images from both photos and PowerPoint sources and what I can do with something along that order
[10:45]  Lydia Milner: which topic are you choosing?
[10:45]  Perry Later: Actually haven't really spent much time at all looking into it
[10:46]  Perry Later: Anything I do in SL needs to take a back seat to RL. This is a sort of diversion to straighten me out after a morning of phone calls and emails
[10:46]  Shakini Parnass: the list has been pared down a bit, so it should be easier to read through
[10:46]  Lydia Milner: hee hee, thats a common problem
[10:47]  Lydia Milner: i just burnt dinner when i was buidling lol
[10:47]  You: SL therapy
[10:47]  Alisa Cleanslate: I noticed a second person chose the quick-start pump. Can there two exhibits on the same subject?
[10:47]  Perry Later: That's exactly what it is.
[10:47]  You: that was in the Teen Grid
[10:47]  Lydia Milner: there are 2 fogquest too
[10:47]  Alisa Cleanslate: Oh.
[10:47]  Alisa Cleanslate: Oh, Oh
[10:47]  You: also TG
[10:47]  Lydia Milner: yes
[10:48]  Lydia Milner: did you want ot come over and see where i have got to?
[10:48]  Shakini Parnass: absolutely!
[10:48]  Lydia Milner: great, walk this way :)
[10:48]  Perry Later: She's been busy...she was workng yesterday and again thios morning
[10:48]  Lydia Milner: hee hee
[10:49]  Lydia Milner: ok with kickstart i have put int eh screenf or the vid of the farmer
[10:49]  Lydia Milner: and the label on the pump
[10:49]  Lydia Milner: which is unfidhed the pump
[10:49]  Lydia Milner: unfinished
[10:49]  You: I loive the duck
[10:50]  You: it has character
[10:50]  Shakini Parnass: i like the dollar bill on the back of this sign
[10:50]  Lydia Milner: hha i made the bird ages ago wehn i was having some thinnking time
[10:50]  Lydia Milner: sorry got to go to other computer brb
[10:51]  Lydia Milner: sorry, my husband isout and i had to do something for him
[10:52]  Alisa Cleanslate: I started working on the Pumping animation.
[10:52]  Lydia Milner: oh great!
[10:52]  Lydia Milner: ok this is a giant wallet, with info on the great impact ofr little money
[10:52]  Lydia Milner: there is aprice tag on the pump to show how little it costs
[10:52]  Lydia Milner: the basic one
[10:53]  Lydia Milner: I did want to put some other stuff that also costs $33, eg. jeans from target, a playstation game, etc
[10:53]  You: cool
[10:53]  Lydia Milner: but i havent done taht, cant really get teh tectures in SL, rather naughty :)
[10:53]  Shakini Parnass: that definitely will hit home
[10:53]  Lydia Milner: yes, thats what I thought
[10:54]  Lydia Milner: the corn is still here, it cost me $5 lol and hours ot find a good pic
[10:54]  Lydia Milner: and hte people are behind the crops
[10:54]  Shakini Parnass: we've been talking about the average allowance in SV and comparing that
[10:54]  Shakini Parnass: not sure what it is tho
[10:54]  Lydia Milner: oh and another dollar at the bottom front of the wallet
[10:55]  Lydia Milner: hard to find out, ia hve been looking on the internet but can spend hours doing that lol
[10:55]  Lydia Milner: i have the script to make the corn and pple glide up out of the earth, that will be triggered by alisa anim
[10:55]  Shakini Parnass: i didn't realize that was a wallet, guess the edges must be too hard
[10:56]  Shakini Parnass: or my brain too soft!
[10:56]  Lydia Milner: yes, thats why i want another dollar bill in there, to make it clearer
[10:56]  Lydia Milner: easier to do in RL lol
[10:56]  Lydia Milner: use leather
[10:56]  Lydia Milner: not rectangles :)
[10:56]  Shakini Parnass: did you get the map with #'s of users off the kicstart website?
[10:56]  Lydia Milner: and the screen in the middle of the map is for hte farmer vid
[10:56]  Lydia Milner: yes
[10:57]  Shakini Parnass: is the 5 seconds of pumping in a loop going to work for you?
[10:57]  You: the corn could be rendered like trees in SL
[10:57]  You: and maybegrow out of the ground
[10:57]  Alisa Cleanslate: That would look cool.
[10:58]  Lydia Milner: yes, i made it 3 secs, so he may be rather jumpy but shoudl work
[10:58]  Lydia Milner: see this
[10:58]  Lydia Milner: this is how the corn and ppl grow
[10:58]  Alisa Cleanslate: Nice
[10:58]  Lydia Milner: so when the anim is activiated they slowly grow up
[10:59]  Lydia Milner: so the video has to lkast this long or ic hange the scrpt lol
[10:59]  You: so that's what to se blocks are for
[10:59]  You: cool
[10:59]  Lydia Milner: yes, need to move them later, just for playing
[10:59]  Wytchwhisper Sadofsky is Online
[11:00]  Lydia Milner: so the blocks become the corn and ppl slides, and the box becomes the ump
[11:00]  Lydia Milner: pump
[11:00]  Shakini Parnass is Offline
[11:01]  Lydia Milner: the sphers are for amelia who is sitting on my lap giving instructions :)
[11:01]  You: lol
[11:02]  You: so everybody has the sniffles now?
[11:02]  Lydia Milner: ugh, and the rest
[11:02]  Lydia Milner: playing pass the tissues since we got back from usa
[11:02]  You: sorry to hear that
[11:03]  Lydia Milner: thnks, i dont build it into my timeyable
[11:03]  Lydia Milner: come look at fogquest
[11:03]  Lydia Milner: hey cool alisa!
[11:03]  You: nice fog
[11:04]  Shakini Parnass is Online
[11:04]  Alisa Cleanslate: Rudimentary fog
[11:04]  Alisa Cleanslate: Thanks
[11:04]  Lydia Milner: did we lose shakini?
[11:04]  Perry Later: Looks like San Francisco Bay at 0900 in the morning with a wind out of the west
[11:04]  You: what is this can?
[11:04]  Lydia Milner: thats the collector, i copied it off their newletter earlier today
[11:04]  You: ok
[11:05]  Alisa Cleanslate: I'm dying to set up FogQuest on the San Francisco hills above my apartment.
[11:05]  Lydia Milner: need toput anoitehr tecture on it
[11:05]  Lydia Milner: lol
[11:05]  Shakini Parnass: i crashed but i'm back now
[11:05]  Perry Later: What part of SFO do you live in???
[11:05]  Shakini Parnass: there's one of these in monterey
[11:05]  Alisa Cleanslate: Upper Market, Noe Valley
[11:05]  Perry Later: I used to spend a lot of time out there
[11:06]  You: but the collector needs to be lower than the screen, no?
[11:06]  Alisa Cleanslate: Really, SF talks so much about too little water, this could help.
[11:06]  Perry Later: Worked for a company up in Petaluma and another over in Lafayette and still another over in Fremont
[11:06]  Lydia Milner: i need to reomve the frame and tie the mesh to the trees, as per peru :)
[11:06]  Lydia Milner: then the pip to the barrell
[11:06]  Lydia Milner: the 3 tubes of water are for the stats of the three places incl san jse
[11:07]  Shakini Parnass: many of the mesh setups that i've seen have a frame made either of PVC or bamboo with tie lines
[11:07]  You: nice idea
[11:07]  Orange Montagne is Offline
[11:07]  Lydia Milner: ok, i did the frame first but ealier was reseaching on their webpage and saw the one with ttree trunks ties
[11:07]  Shakini Parnass: the mesh screen animation looks really cool
[11:08]  Lydia Milner: thanks im a bit of a perfectionsist given the time
[11:08]  Lydia Milner: and i need to adjust it as ont eh back it rolls upwards hee hee
[11:08]  Alisa Cleanslate: Can we get the fog behind the screen, and to go through?
[11:08]  Shakini Parnass: we've been talking about creating a simulation using projection on the mesh to avoid having water or fog in the exhibit
[11:08]  You: will you have the fog particle effect blowing thirough the mesh?
[11:08]  Lydia Milner: yese, for rl i thought a thin perspsex liek double glaxzing
[11:09]  Lydia Milner: with water or polystryene balls insde
[11:09]  Lydia Milner: my husband said there used to be a window insulstaion in the 70's where you pumped in styrofoam between
[11:09]  Lydia Milner: two sheets of glass
[11:09]  Lydia Milner: so that technnolgoy is aorund somehwere
[11:10]  Lydia Milner: and i thought it would be nice to have some direct msgs like leaving hte tap running for 5 minutes = x water
[11:10]  Lydia Milner: or apile of litre bottles to show hwomuch water collected on onemesh per day etc
[11:11]  CIBERLADEN Allen accepted your inventory offer.
[11:12]  Lydia Milner: make a person out of empty litre water bottles to show how much water one mesh collects, as we are mostly water :)
[11:12]  CIBERLADEN Allen accepted your inventory offer.
[11:13]  T3ch Janus is Online
[11:13]  Shakini Parnass: hey lydia, how much water does the collector hold
[11:13]  Lydia Milner: id id look that up ages ago but dont remember
[11:14]  Lydia Milner: or the size
[11:14]  Lydia Milner: why shakini?
[11:15]  Shakini Parnass: just wondering...
[11:15]  Shakini Parnass: tying into people's personal consumption/lifestyles is definitely something we've been talking about as well
[11:15]  Shakini Parnass: i like the idea of leaving water running
[11:16]  Shakini Parnass: while brushing teeth or washing dishes
[11:16]  Lydia Milner: if one day is too mucmh, then how much water a set of these collect in one hour, and so on
[11:16]  Lydia Milner: yes excactly
[11:16]  Shakini Parnass: they measure per square meter
[11:16]  Lydia Milner: and i want the video off hte webpage where there is a huge gale blowing, for the sound
[11:16]  Shakini Parnass: 3-8 liters per day per square meter of mesh
[11:16]  Lydia Milner: yes i have some states somehere
[11:16]  Lydia Milner: oh good
[11:17]  Lydia Milner: hmm, i think the big ones are 10m is is?
[11:17]  Lydia Milner: i will ahve ot fin d it again
[11:17]  Lydia Milner: to find it again
[11:18]  Lydia Milner: i thought in rl , yes to avoid water :)
[11:18]  Lydia Milner: to have little styrofoam balls in two sheets of glass or perspex, with a button or bellows that blow the balls thought to show the fog
[11:19]  Lydia Milner: with stage smoke and howling wind ala wuthering heights noises
[11:19]  Shakini Parnass: nice
[11:19]  Shakini Parnass: real life is intervening on this end, we're hanging the real fogquest mesh on the wall!
[11:19]  Lydia Milner: and a few high fans to mess your hair up
[11:19]  Lydia Milner: mounted high
[11:20]  Lydia Milner: ah yes, rl does that lol
[11:20]  You: nice, I like that!
[11:20]  Lydia Milner: but the stage atmosphere can be built
[11:20]  Lydia Milner: so alisa fog here illustrates the stage smoke
[11:20]  Shakini Parnass: your screen just inspired our team - we're going to try projecting on the mesh instead of just talking about it
[11:20]  Lydia Milner: oh hey wahat a good idea
[11:21]  Alisa Cleanslate: Cool
[11:21]  Lydia Milner: and iw as gonna put the stats on teh three cyclinders, for san jose, yemen and i think it was eritrea i chose b4
[11:22]  Lydia Milner: other htan that, i want ot put a vid in here, or I may just do some howling wind sounds, now that we have alisa fog here
[11:22]  Shakini Parnass: do any of you have videos of fog rolling in?
[11:22]  Lydia Milner: no, htere was only one good one on the web, and I cant find my notes so i will ahve to locate it again
[11:22]  Perry Later: migt be able to get something
[11:23]  Lydia Milner: great :)
[11:23]  You: ybe have the water dripping into the cylindars at different rates, as well as haivng them filled to different levels
[11:23]  You: more dynamic
[11:23]  Lydia Milner: that sounds good stephe, can we do real water in rl?
[11:24]  Perry Later: I'll send my son out to the coast. He's about ten minutes from the Pacific down in LA...they get lots of fog down there too
[11:24]  Perry Later: Not as much as SFO though
[11:24]  You: in a closed cylindar, I think
[11:24]  T3ch Janus is Offline
[11:24]  Alisa Cleanslate: Great fog here in SF, maybe i could video it, don
[11:24]  Alisa Cleanslate: don
[11:24]  Shakini Parnass: we're trying to avoid real water in RL -- too messy
[11:25]  Alisa Cleanslate: don't know.
[11:25]  Lydia Milner: wow! i wanted to have stats on fog and how much water gathere dfor two real sites like yemen and eritrea, then compare to some usa ones like san jose, and i
[11:25]  Shakini Parnass: and not so good for other computer equipment to have fog machines around
[11:25]  Lydia Milner: orignally thought also new york and death valley, as places ppl ahve heard of
[11:25]  Lydia Milner: lol
[11:25]  Lydia Milner: but i think that may be too much to get the stats
[11:25]  Perry Later: I do have a really clear ohoto of the Golden Gate that I stitched together with Photoshop from teh Marin Highlands
[11:25]  Shakini Parnass: our engineers are worrying about the humidity
[11:25]  Perry Later: photo
[11:25]  Lydia Milner: ask and expert and we'll be there ages whil ethey get it exactly right :)
[11:25]  Perry Later: try dry ice
[11:26]  Lydia Milner: is dry ice the stage smoke stuff?
[11:26]  You: they were playing with a theatrical fog machine - fog of mineral oil droplets
[11:26]  Perry Later: do fog machines actually produce high humidity or is it some sort of smoke effect?
[11:26]  Alisa Cleanslate: Dry ice could be good, but you have to replace it often.
[11:26]  Perry Later: Ah...that's what I thought
[11:26]  Shakini Parnass: the water based fogs do produce humidity
[11:27]  Shakini Parnass: dry ice is also very cool as an effect but too much labor
[11:27]  Shakini Parnass: i like your virtual fog machine tho!
[11:27]  Alisa Cleanslate: It will come from above.
[11:27]  Alisa Cleanslate: Not out of the floor.
[11:28]  Perry Later: How about a "projection" of rolling fog onto a very sheer background
[11:28]  Alisa Cleanslate: I would like a start -stop button, so the visitor could control the fog.
[11:28]  Lydia Milner: yes, shoudl we have a few small fogs pointing to the mesh?
[11:28]  Lydia Milner: sensor control? could do the sound the same to avoid driving ppl mad :)
[11:29]  Alisa Cleanslate: Yes, I think so.

[11:35]  Shakini Parnass: right, like an optical test
[11:35]  Lydia Milner: and behind it you see a scene like a car coming, cops to pick, etc so you can see how much diffce it makes
