Background: Kiva is an online person to person 'matchmaking' service that connects would be entrepreneurs in the developing world with lenders in the developed world. Loans start as small as $25 US, so anyone can be a lender. YOU can be a lender: http://www.kiva.org/__________________________________________________________________________________ This project: Borrowing the slogan, 'Loans That Change Lives', the KIVA Kiosks project will adopt the slogan: 'SL Loans Changing RL Lives'... or something similar :). The idea is to design (and distribute) in world kiosks that will allow SL residents to access the Kiva website and browse for borrowers while in world, register as lenders and transfer funds in either lindens or through Paypal from that same kiosk instantaneously. The Kiosks will be about the size of an in world ATM, very low in prim count and use a simple get URL script to access the Kiva web site. A pay script will handle the transaction from lindens to real world funds if necessary or perhaps connect the user to Paypal much as SL Exchange kiosks already do. With a small footprint, low lag scripting, a variety of kiosk styles to choose from and such an interesting and worthwhile list of RL entrepeneurs awaiting lenders, it should be possible to widely distribute KIVA Kiosks in SL. In a win-win scenario, the KIVA Kiosks project will raise SL awareness of KIVA.org, and allow residents to demonstrate their willingness to help others in their entrepreneurial efforts in real time with real money while in world. Best of all, every SL KIVA Kiosk placed will expand KIVA's potential lender base.

this is really a wonderful idea, it will be interesting to see what kind of response it generates in-world. one idea we have been bouncing around on this end is creating a virtual donation process for visitors by using their "tech tags" while they are in the exhibit that could hopefully lead to the expenditure of real dollars later on. visitors could be given some small amount of "money" to either donate in support of projects they find worthy or to use as a virtual micro-loan to create a small business idea of their own...
thanks for getting the ball rolling!

Great first steps!!
As far as I remember, Kiva has a very interesting categorization of the entrepreneurs, the exhibit could feature after the "lending process" a map of help, i.e. money given to women, agricultural projects, region, etc. and you can identify in each map where are you collaborating or being an entrepreneur.
Other thought for you: there are many needs in the world, there are many hands willing to give in the world, but the first ones don't know where to look, and the others they don't know whom to give. Kiva makes the match from heaven. And, most important, giving a little or a lot, makes the difference, you don't have to be millinaire to give, you just have to decide to share what you have.
Keep on going...
